About us

We are a co-operative Coppicing and Woodcraft business based in the North Lancashire/South Cumbrian region of Britain, working towards sustainable woodland management. We supply firewood sourced from our woodland management work, produce charcoal and make a wide range of traditional coppice products such as hazel hurdles, oak gates and fencing, benches and more. We also run craft and coppice courses from our beautiful woodland yard.

The Coppice Co-op exists to provide employment for its members and other heritage craft workers within the field of traditional coppicing; woodland restoration; habitat management; and the conservation of the rural landscape and its heritage. We aim to make a long term positive contribution by combining economic viability as a business with the promotion of heritage skills to deliver sustainable woodland and habitat management work that landowners otherwise find difficult to fund consistently. The Coppice Co-op also works with a range of partner organisations to support access to woodlands, crafts and nature connection for a broad range of participants.

Who is The Coppice Co-op?

As a cooperative, The Coppice Co-op is owned and run by its members, with each of us having equal say in day-to-day operations and bigger decisions about the direction of the business. There are now 6 full-time members of the coop, each bringing a unique set of skills and experience to the group which helps us stay resilient and able to take on a wide and varied range of coppice, woodland and craft projects. We are Sam, James, Duncan, Frazer, Andrew and Tom.

Volunteer with us

During the year we arrange days where volunteers come and work with us to get a feel for the various coppice worker’s jobs which could include: dressing out and making coppice products, clearing brash, processing firewood, making charcoal, fencing coppice coups and all manner of other woodland activities.

If you’d like to join us in the woods, then please phone us on 07766 629533 or email info@coppicecoop.co.uk
